Clark Regional Medical Center One of the First Facilities in the Region to Offer Revolutionary Advanced Treatment for Long-Lasting Chronic Sinusitis Relief

Winchester, KY – For those who suffer with chronic sinusitis, there is a new surgical technique that can help you breathe easier and enjoy relief from frequent sinus headaches.

The procedure is called Balloon Sinuplasty. This outpatient procedure uses a minimally invasive technique involving a flexible, thin balloon catheter designed to enlarge sinus openings.

Clark Regional now offers this new treatment for patients, who suffer from chronic sinusitis, which is an inflammation of the sinus lining caused by bacterial, viral, and/or microbial infections. It is also for patients with structural issues like sinus opening blockages. If the sinus opening is closed, normal mucus drainage may not occur and could lead to infection and inflammation of the sinuses.

“I have been amazed with the results with this new technique. Patients return to my office for follow up after the surgery and report immediate relief of their symptoms, especially headaches and stuffy nose due to sinus disease. I think this technique is the future of sinus surgery” said Ara Makdessian, M.D., specializing in Otolaryngology – Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon.

With balloon sinuplasty, there is no need for the removal of tissue or bone. That means minimal discomfort, almost no bleeding, and shortened recovery time. Most patients are able to return to normal activities within two to seven days.

LAND PURCHASE COMPLETED FOR NEW
CLARK REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER FACILITY
New Hospital Site Provides Enhanced Visibility and Accessibility

Winchester, Kentucky (August 4, 2010) – Clark Regional Medical Center (CRMC) completed the first major milestone in its plans to develop a new state-of-the-art replacement facility.  CEO Kathy Love announced today that CRMC has finalized the acquisition of 30 acres of land, strategically located between Lexington Avenue and I-64 and adjacent to Winchester Plaza.

“This property purchase is a tremendous opportunity to obtain an easily accessible, highly visible site for our new hospital,” Love said. “This is great news for the community in that this location will make access to quality healthcare more convenient for the residents of the Clark County region.”

On May 1, 2010, CRMC became part of LifePoint Hospitals®, a leading hospital company based in Brentwood, Tenn. focused on providing quality healthcare services close to home.  When LifePoint acquired CRMC, the company committed to invest approximately $60 million to build and equip a new, 132,000 square foot, state-of-the-art hospital to replace the current 43-year-old hospital facility.

The 30-acre parcel was purchased from Winchester Commercial LLC and the Norton family.

With the completion of the land purchase, CRMC will now move forward with plans for construction.  Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2010, with completion of the new facility expected approximately 18 to 24 months after construction begins, weather permitting.
