The occupational therapist at Clark Regional Medical Center work closely with clients, physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other disciplines to determine individual rehabilitation needs. Occupational therapists focus on helping individuals recovering from illness or injury to build endurance and learn better ways of completing the daily activities. Activities such as bathing, dressing, household tasks, functioning in our community, participating in leisure pursuit, and all aspects of daily living are evaluated. Then, an individualized plan of care is developed for each client. An individual’s therapy may include upper extremity exercise and therapeutic engagement in daily activities to build strength and endurance. Therapy may also include personalized client education regarding increasing coping skills, breathing techniques, energy conservation, home environment modifications, and personal growth and development. Occupational therapists may also provide education on how clients may increase their knowledge of their medical condition and how to adapt their lifestyle to promote optimal health and well being. At Clark Regional, our occupational therapists utilize our home management training suite to prepare clients to function with optimal independence upon discharge from our facility. Our home management training suite provides an environment in which client can gain greater independence and confidence through engagement in or simulation of daily activities including bathing, dressing, meal preparation, kitchen activities, and laundry tasks. Pediatric Occupational Therapy

For children, occupational therapy focuses on developing specific life skills rather than job-related functions. Occupational therapy helps children further develop or regain skills through specific exercises and task-related activities. Individualized therapy programs address fine motor skills such as using hands for drawing, cutting, writing, grasping and daily living skills such as eating, dressing and play.

When skill and strength cannot be developed or improved, OT offers creative solutions and alternatives for carrying out daily activities. One of the activities that occupational therapists can address to meet children's needs is working on fine motor skills so that kids can grasp and release toys and develop good handwriting skills. Occupational therapists also address hand–eye coordination to improve play skills, such as hitting a target, batting a ball, or copying from a blackboard.

Occupational Therapy will identify and improve difficulties that interfere with the child's potential for perform functional daily living skills and peer activities.  Direct treatment is provided along with consultation for carry over at home.

We treat the following:
  • Sensory process treatment
  • Fine motor deficits
  • Visual motor deficits
  • Global development delays
